Inoue VS. Dhoni says tanking was a ‘fierce battle’ but weight gap is too big

Former Naoya Inoue knockout victim TJ Doheny says “Tank” Gervonta Davis will be too much for the Japanese star if the pair fight at 135.

Boxing fans have been pushing for Inoue to move up to super featherweight (130) or lightweight (135) to face Tank Davis in a blockbuster major fight to prove who is the best in the sport of first place.

Inoue did not go along with this plan, choosing to stay where he was at 122 points and enjoy the treatment of his opponents in this lifeless division. He’s shown zero motivation to move up to 126 pounds to take on dangerous featherweights, and obviously, a move up to 130 or 135 isn’t going to happen either.

Naoya needs a complete head transplant Putting the brain of a brave warrior from the past into his body gave him the bold, adventurous spirit we see from greats like Muhammad Ali. It would be great to see Inoue move up two weight classes to 130 and take on Tank Davis as their cruiserweight in a super featherweight contest to prove who is the best in the sport. A very interesting thing.

Dorney believes that the weight and size difference between Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) and Inoue (29-0, 26 KOs) is too great for “The Monster” to stand a chance. Irishman Doheny believes 126 is the upper limit of Naoya’s abilities in the sport.

“Tank is definitely a dog, but if they were in the same weight class it would be a tough fight. But the gap is too big. I think 126 is Inouye’s ceiling, I really do,” said TJ Doheny professional boxing fan When asked if Naoya Inoue would have a chance against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis if he made it to 135 and fight him.

It’s a shame Inoue would never take up the idea because it would have been fun to see him and Tank battle for a championship spot in the sport. Fans weren’t interested in Inoue beating up fighters like Kim Ye-jun, Dhoni, Sam Goodman and Luis Nery.
