Is Ryan Garcia sabotaging himself with Romero?

Ryan Garcia is said to have chosen Rolly Romero as his opponent on May 2 in Times Square, New York City. To the surprise of fans, Garcia hand-picked Raleigh (16-2, 13 KOs) because he was unpopular and had just been knocked out last year.

Garcia vs. Romero will be the main event on the Turki Sheikh card on May 2. Devin Haney will face Jose Ramirez in the lead support battle. The fight should be reversed, with Haney Ramirez as the headliner and Garcia-Romero as the co-main event. Ryan is more popular than Devin because he has 12 million followers on Instagram, which is why he competes with Romero for the top spot.

Boxing fans will give Ryan a pass for using Raleigh as a tune-up on PPV, as his next fight will be a rematch with Devin Haney in October. So, they’ll tolerate Garcia taking the tomato can from Rolly Romero because he’s fighting Devin next.

Will Garcia regret it?

Garcia is counting on Rolly to draw interest in his fights with his ability to talk trash outside the ring. This is what Romero does best. He was a limited fighter, but he connected with fans through the odd interview.

Still, he struggled in the game and hasn’t looked good in games for years. He was knocked out by Pitbull Cruz in March last year and has also fought with Ismael Barro, Manuel Jaimes, Gervonta David Gervonta Davis and Jackson Marinez had poor performances in the game.

Initially, talks were held between Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz. However, he chose not to compete as he was scheduled to fight Angel Fierro on February 1st. Cruz wanted to wait.

Therefore, Ryan chose the 29-year-old Romero as his opponent. Pitbull chose not to fight Garcia and that’s what screwed it up. But even if he chooses not to compete against Kinley, he could find a better opponent than Raleigh.

Ryan’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya was interested in Teofimo Lopez as his opponent, but he chose Rolly.
