Eddie Hearn says George Kambosos Jr. will headline a show in Australia in March. He didn’t reveal who the former unified lightweight champion would fight, but said it would be a top-15 contender when he debuts at 140.
“Emperor” Kambosos is currently going through a difficult period in his career, having lost three of his last four games and being viewed as a textbook example of a one-hit wonder.
In 2021, George miraculously defeated Teofimo Lopez and made millions from that brief success. However, things have gone downhill for Kambosos since then, losing twice to Devin Haney and getting knocked out by Vasily Lomachenko. He was a flash in the pan.
‘Tramp’ Hitchens in Kambosos’ sights
Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) said he will challenge Richardson Hitchens for the IBF light welterweight title in the summer. Call the undefeated New Yorker “butt,Kambosos is confident of defeating him and becoming a two-division world champion.
Hitchens defeated IBF 140-pound champion Liam Parrow via a 12-round unanimous decision on December 7 last month, scuppering Hearn’s plans for a big fight in Australia. Hearn had hoped to mass produce the fight with Kambosos and Paro in Australia in 2025 as the fight would be a huge hit in the Australian market.
