India’s fiery pacer Mohammed Siraj has been omitted from the India ODI squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England as well as the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Siraj was overlooked in favor of youngster Arshdeep Singh for the prestigious tournament.
With Mohammed Siraj unavailable for India’s upcoming assignment, the star pacer will have to fulfill his domestic commitments thanks to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the disastrous Border Plus Latest guidance released following the Wasca Cup 2024-25 Australia campaign.
Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stipulated that all Indian players must participate in all forms of domestic cricket if they do not fulfill their national obligations to remain eligible for selection to the Indian team and central contracts.
After being snubbed in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Hyderabad await Mohammed Siraj’s decision on Ranji Trophy 2024-25
However, as the next round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 will begin on January 23, there is no clarity on whether Mohammad Siraj will represent Hyderabad in the first-tier tournament. Many top international stars will be representing their states in the next Ranji tournament, including Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill.
But the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is still in the dark about Mohammed Siraj’s availability for the remaining matches of the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. The Hyderabad Cricket Board management is said to have not received any information about Siraj ahead of the crucial match at home against Himachal Pradesh in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy.
Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jagan Mohan Rao and senior selection committee chairman Harimohan Puruvu also refused to divulge any latest information on pacer availability. However, Siraj has been a regular for his Hyderabad State team in the Ranji Trophy.
We haven’t heard anything about him from HCA: Hyderabad Cricket Board Management
The Times of India quoted a member of the Hyderabad Cricket Board management as saying: “We are yet to receive an update. As of now, we have not heard anything from the HCA about him.”
The right-arm pacer has played 76 first-class matches so far and has scalped 260 wickets at an impressive average of 26.10 and an economy rate of 3.26, with best match figures of 6/21. He also impressed during the recent tour of Australia, taking 22 wickets in 5 Test matches.
Mohammed Siraj also played a key role in guiding the Men in Blue to the 2023 ODI World Cup final, 2024 T20 World Cup glory and the 2023 Asia Cup title. Despite his good record and experience, Indian selectors have chosen Arshdeep Singh for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma explains why Mohammed Siraj was dropped from CT 2025 squad
Ashdeep has played only 8 ODIs so far but India skipper Rohit Sharma stressed that the young pacer’s ability to bowl at any stage of the game makes Siraj available for the upcoming matches of the Eight-Nations Championship, where they will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
Rohit Sharma said: “Siraj, when he doesn’t bowl with the new ball, his efficiency goes down.”
