Eddie Howe

After playing so much football over the Christmas period and with the Premier League match coming up on Wednesday, Eddie Howe will be tempted to rotate the bulk of his starting lineup against Bromley. Fringe players like Lloyd Kelly, Miguel Almiron and William Osula could all earn minutes.

Saudi-linked Martin Dubravka or Odysseus Vlachodimos will start between the sticks although Nick Pope is still on the sidelines, the former likely for the Middle East this month. Emile Kraft and Jamal Lascelles are absent in defence.

Callum Wilson is still in the treatment room with a hamstring problem and Howe confirmed that Alexander Isak, who has scored 14 goals in his last 15 outings, will be ruled out in the afternoon.

Newcastle Predicted Lineup vs Bromley (4-3-3): Vlachodemos; Trippier, Schar, Kelly, Targett; Willock, Longstaff, Millie; Almiron, Osula, Barnes.

Ben Thompson has been impressive for Bromley during the first half of the campaign and the previously on-loan midfielder signed permanently ahead of the Newcastle match.

Michael Cheek will be a major source of attacking joy for Bromley, with the 33-year-old scoring 14 times this term. He was recently named League Two Fans Player of the Month for December.

Bromley predicted lineup against Newcastle (3-4-1-2): Smith; Grant, Sowunmi, Reynolds; Imre, Thompson, Arthurs, Odutayo; in a white manner; Dennis, Cheek.

Newcastle are likely to field a second-string side for the visit of Bromley but that should have little impact on their progress to the fourth round. With home advantage, bags of confidence and some talented peripheral figures aiming to prove a point, there should only be one winner on Sunday.

Bromley will fancy their chances to unsettle an occasionally changed Newcastle defense and a clinical cheek can be their source of consolation. But Bromley concede more than a goal per game in League Two and will be punished by Newcastle’s wealth.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Bromley
