Turki Al-Sheikh revealed tonight on The X that he plans to host a mini-tournament in Riyadh in October, featuring Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis taking on Teofimo Lopez on the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney 2 card. The winners of these two games will meet in February and the losers will meet on the same card.

Turki said he still needs to communicate with Matchroom, Golden Boy Promotions and PBC to let them know about his plans to use fighters.

For Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs), moving up to 147 pounds to take on the man many fans consider to be the welterweight king and IBF champion Jaylen Ennis is the answer. Very difficult.

We may see these fights come February when the smoke clears.

• Devin Haney vs. Teofimo Lopez – Loser’s Consolation

Lopez’s punching power gives him a solid chance to defeat Haney. At 147, Ennis may be too big, too strong, and too experienced for Ryan.

Of course, Teofimo wants to fight Ennis because it would give him a big paycheck and a chance to prove himself to an elite-level fighter. As long as Teo remains competitive in a losing effort, his stock will rise, as he’s now 140 years old, struggling in a dead division, and fighting against nameless opponents.

When you look at the fight, you can see that this is an ideal situation for IBF welterweight champion Boots Ennis as he will most likely be the last man standing. He will most likely beat Teofimo in October and then beat the winner of Garcia vs. Haney 2. Ennis would have a 147 size and experience advantage against any fighter in Turki’s proposed mini-tournament.

Ryan will fight Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz this May, while Haney faces Jose Ramirez on the same card in New York’s Times Square. Neither fight looked good for Ryan or Haney, but it didn’t seem like it would matter if they lost. Turki hasn’t said there’s a chance Cruz or Ramirez will fight on his October card, but you have to believe he’ll use them in a later fight.
