At least 11 people were killed and five injured in a rumored train fire in India, only to be hit by another train.
Railway officials said an emergency rope was pulled on a train bound for Mumbai in the western state of Maharashtra, causing the train to stop and passengers to disembark.
They were struck by a train on adjacent tracks. It’s unclear whether a fire actually broke out.
India has embarked on a $30bn (£24bn) rail modernization program in recent years, but the plan has been marred by a series of accidents, including Major three-train collision in Odisha 2023 Nearly 300 people died.
