James McAtee was the hero with a hat-trick as Manchester City cruised into the fourth round. The FA Cup thrashing Salford City 8-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
City stormed out of the blocks, taking the lead after just four minutes through Jeremy Doku, and were cruising after 20 minutes when Divine Mubama doubled the advantage.
Nico O’Reilly extended the lead before the half-time interval, smartly turning home into the bottom corner after a penalty and pass from the impressive Doku.
Jack Grealish won a second-half penalty minute and hauled himself down to convert from 12 yards – his first goal of the season – before McAtee took center stage.
The attacking midfielder brilliantly turned in Doku’s cross to make it five citySalford defender Curtis Tilt was penalized for handling Docu’s goalbound shot – before the latter extended the advantage after winning another penalty.
McAtee scored twice before the final whistle, capping a superb performance for City against a team hoping to be promoted from League Two to champions.
