‘Poland is a benchmark for Europe in terms of defence’: the French ambassador in Warsaw




Talking Europe sits down with a leading French diplomat in Warsaw, just as Poland takes over the rotating presidency of the EU in turbulent geopolitical times. Étienne de Poncins was previously the French ambassador to Ukraine and escaped from Kiev just in time to be surrounded by the Russian army in 2022. He wrote about this experience in his book “Au Cœur de la Guerre” – “War in the Heart”. We discuss Poland’s position in the EU, especially its defense obligations, as well as the EU’s approach to Ukraine and the incoming US President Donald Trump.
