Ravichandran Ashwin, in a video shared on his YouTube channel, said that the decision to retire is personal and he cannot guess what others are thinking.

“It’s difficult to answer this question. I have just retired. I have known them for a long time. I cannot make a judgment on what Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli or Ravindra Jadeja think . Everyone has their own ideas. They just know what to do and what not to do,” Ashwin said.

Ravichandran Ashwin made a personal analogy when criticizing the growing toxicity of fan wars on social media. Ashwin said that he is a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar but that does not mean that he does not like Rahul Dravid or any other player. He added that preferring one player to another does not justify mistreating other players.

“The fan wars on social media have become very toxic. I have always said, let’s talk about cricket like cricket and not like the brand value of the players,” he commented.

“For example, as a cricket fan, I used to be a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. That doesn’t mean I would say anything bad about Rahul Dravid. I also like Rahul Dravid, but I like Sachin a lot. And I think I do too. Following the example of Anil Kumble, liking one player more does not mean you will continue to abuse other players,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer defended Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after criticizing their performances in recent Tests. He noted that Rohit acknowledged his struggles but remained hopeful about future performances. Ashwin also reminded people of Virat’s century in the series opener in Perth.

“Rohit also said, ‘I didn’t score today, but that doesn’t mean I won’t score tomorrow.’ For Virat, he also hit a hundred in Perth.
