Serhii Bohachuk has volunteered to be the next challenger to WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora for his next fight in March Next game. Fundola (21 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, 13 KOs) had two options for his next fight rejected by the World Boxing Organization last week.
Initially, Fundora was scheduled to fight Errol Spence (28-1, 22 KOs), but the WBO chose not to sanction the fight. Their reasoning was that Spence hadn’t fought in 1.5 years. He has never beaten 154 since losing and has not been ranked in the top 15 of the WBO.
According to reports, Fundora’s team wants to use Joey Spencer (19 wins, 1 loss, 11 KOs), but he is also not in the top 15, so he is not a good opponent.
dangerous challenge
Former WBC 154-pound interim champion Bohalchuk is ranked No. 8 in the WBO rankings, making him the perfect opponent for Vondola’s March 30 fight. The only problem is that Fundora’s management may not want to use Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) because he’s dangerous.
While Fundora proved last year that he could beat out the slugger in Tim Tszyu, that’s not the same situation with Bohachuk. He doesn’t do it alone like Tszyu. Like Artur Beterbiev, he keeps throwing punches, and he’s good at fighting in the paint. He can generate a lot of power in the paint. Qi Yu can’t do this.
Team Fondola may also not be happy with having Sebastian fight someone like Charles Cornwell or Xander Zayas if they want to move up the WBO top 15 list of contenders. It’s two fights, just like he fought Bohachuk.
If Fondora feels he has the ability, he should fight Bohachuk because he is free and he fights him voluntarily. That’s half the battle.
Sebastian let’s fight in Los Angeles
