Slott credits Accrington Stanley before praising Liverpool’s ‘difference in quality’

Liverpool head coach Arne Slott believes his squad’s “difference in quality” is what got them through to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Reds demolished League Two side Accrington Stanley, running out 4–0 winners.

Federico Chiesa scored his first goal for Liverpool, while Trent Alexander-Arnold was also on the scoresheet despite being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Speaking after the game, Slott said: “Credit to them, I think they showed their style of play, which is a big compliment.

“They played the same style they always play. In the end, of course, the difference in quality makes a big difference for us, but we appreciate how they appeared today.

“Trent didn’t have his best game against Manchester United, but he’s been great for us the rest of the season – I loved his performance today.

“Our fans have always given him a lot of support. He didn’t play well once, but the fans responded to him. If Trent plays the way we expect him to, he gets the support.”

On Chiesa, he added: “It’s certainly a good first step, but as much as I liked the way Accrington Stanley played we have to consider that we’re talking about League Two level.

“It’s good to have him back on the pitch. It was a threat, but let’s not get carried away.

16-year-old Rio Ngumoha started for Liverpool, making him the youngest player in the club’s history to start an FA Cup match.

He showed flashes of quality and impressed Slott with his bow at Anfield.

He said: “He did well. There were a few moments where fans could see why we think he’s a genius. He is good in one-v-one situations.

“He showed a little bit more in the first half than he did in the second half. It’s great to make your debut and win. It is a special day for him.”
