It looks like Sony is reversing course on its live service ambitions, at least according to a new report from Bloomberg. The report says that PlayStation has now canceled two more live-service titles, one from Bend Studio and the other from Bluepoint Games. Although there is no official word on what these games will be – neither company has announced a game in development – Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claims that one of the titles will be set in the God of War universe.

The game company announced shortly after its acquisition of Bungie that it intended to launch a dozen-or-so titles on the live-service before the end of the 2025 fiscal year. However, it has been fraught with difficulties, with chaos behind the scenes at Bungie itself, and several major games on the live-service failing to launch or making mediocre showings after launch. The most famous of these is 2024 Concordwhich was launched and then died within two weeks. While Helldivers 2 proved to be a success, it proved to be an anomaly in PlayStation’s ambitions.

Sony acquires Bluepoint in 2021, having previously worked with the studio to produce remakes and remasters, including Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. An IGN report from around the time claimed that Bluepoint’s next title was an original. As for Bend, former Days Gone director Jeff Ross (Bend Studio published Days Gone) attributed that Sony invested $250 million in its next project.

According to the report, Sony has not closed any studios and has no plans to lay off any staff. A staff memo said the company is “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine what the next projects will be and plans to do everything to ensure there is minimal impact on the business.”
