‘Swiggy…this is unacceptable’: Mahua Moitra calls out Swiggy for delivering spoiled ice cream, demands Rs 1220 refund

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra took to social media yesterday to express her frustration with food delivery service Swiggy after receiving spoiled ice creams she had ordered. In a tweet sent at around 10.15pm on January 16, the 50-year-old politician slammed the service for delivering “expensive” Minus Thirty ice creams that were inedible.

“Sorry Swiggy, you need to up your game. It’s unacceptable that I ordered an expensive mini stick ice cream from Minus Thirty and it arrived damaged and inedible. Looking forward to a refund or replacement as soon as possible,” Moitra tweeted.

The TMC leader revealed that she had ordered a total of 10 ice creams for ₹1,220. Swiggy customer care team responded quickly and asked for your order number to resolve the issue.

Moitra’s complaint quickly sparked fun on social media, with many users referencing her past controversies, including a high-profile incident involving an expensive handbag. The MP herself got in on the fun and said her ice creams were “Hermes flavor with Bobbi Brown icing”.

Some even pestered her for posting this query on X. The user wrote: “This sounds like a publicity deal to me. Since she was caught last time. To sell her parliamentary credentials. Now she’s making money doing ads. to fulfill it. Expensive hobbies.”

However, she also took a moment to address the trolling she faced on the X platform, stating: “Just because I’m an MP doesn’t mean I’m not a normal person ordering food online. Please overcome this mentality that public representatives are not ordinary beings.”

The incident has sparked a wider discussion about customer experiences with delivery platforms. Many users spoke with their own negative experiences regarding refunds from e-commerce and food delivery services.

One user shared, “It’s happened to me twice with less than thirty orders. It’s frustrating, but I understand the challenges of frozen deliveries,” while another advised against ordering items that can thaw quickly.
