Teofimo Lopez’s New Advisors: Can They Save Him?

Teofimo Lopez has signed a multi-year consulting agreement with Keith Connolly and Mike Borao. WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21 wins, 1 loss, 13 KOs) said he will become “Fight the best” This year will be a “war”.

If the new advisor can give Teofimo talents he doesn’t have, his career will be in good shape by the end of 2025. However, this seems unlikely. This year could be the worst of Lopez’s career, and he will be in trouble after February 2026.

High-stakes battle schedule

Teofimo signed a multi-year deal, which is great, but if he’s going to “fight the best” (as he puts it), those guys won’t be able to keep his career going. He doesn’t seem capable of winning two games in 2025, and he may lose in February 2025, too.

Lopez, 27, will fight in three do-or-die fights that could completely derail his career. He is expected to fight the IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchens Unified the two belts in April, then rose to 147 to challenge for the IBF welterweight championship Jaylen “Boots” Ennis October.

If Te’o loses to Ennis, he will face the loser of a rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia in February 2026. That would be the consolidation game for the loser. If Teo loses that game, his record will be 0-3, and it will be difficult to see him come back and recommit no matter who manages him.

Lopez showed up at the Ring Awards in London on January 11 and looked like a superstar, but after a string of poor performances since 2021, his career isn’t looking good. Most recently, he had the opportunity to fight Subriel Matias at a Western PPV. Coast but declined. Some fans believe this was a case of Teofimo knowing he was going to lose, so he chose to change the direction of the fight.
