The latest feature of ChatGPT allows users to assign these characteristics like ‘chatty’ and ‘Gen Z’

Update: OpenAI officially announced this feature a week after some users reported its arrival, and then Demiseof new options. It is possible that they lived prematurely.

OpenAI introduces a new way for users to customize their interactions ChatGPTthe company’s AI-powered chatbot.

On Friday, OpenAI Office has partnered it launches a new user interface for ChatGPT’s custom instruction menu, including new ways to customize chatbot behaviors. The feature will roll out first to ChatGPT.com and the Windows desktop app, according to OpenAI, and will come to mobile and MacOS desktop apps in the coming weeks.

The new UI will not be immediately available to ChatGPT users in the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, OpenAI said in a tweet on Friday.

The others users in X reported last week that ChatGPT is now available custom instructions The web menu has been updated with new fields. Now, users can specify a preferred name or nickname, their profession, other things they want ChatGPT to know about them, and “characteristics” they want the chatbot to have. OpenAI suggests characteristics such as “Chatty,” “Encouraging,” and “Gen Z.”

It is important to note that this is not related to ChatGPT’s memory feature, which allows users to tell ChatGPT to apparently remember – or forget – something. Somewhat confusingly, ChatGPT’s “memories” can be personal details – but they can also include a wider range of information related to the conversation.

“Introduce yourself to get better, more personalized responses,” reads a message on the refreshed menu.

Options have not yet appeared for this reporter. TechCrunch has reached out to OpenAI for comment and will update this article when we hear back.

It is likely that the new menu is more of an aesthetic change than a deep technical upgrade. The old custom instructions are part used what is known as rapid engineering to guide the style and tone of ChatGPT. In fact, it “primes” the AI that powers ChatGPT with a paragraph of user-supplied instructions so that its responses follow those needs and preferences.

As far as we know, the new menu still relies on quick engineering. It simply presents it in a user-friendly way.

OpenAI has previously said it will use the standard guidelines to check whether they comply with its terms of use. Maybe, that doesn’t change the changed personalization settings.

OpenAI looks to polish ChatGPT as its user base grows, adding capabilities like live web search and one”Canvas” interface tailored to writing and coding projects. The company said in December that more than 300 million people use the chatbot every week.
