WASHINGTON — The federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is notifying agency and department heads that they must begin taking steps to close all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion All offices will be closed through the end of Wednesday and government workers in those offices will be placed on paid leave, Fox News Digital has learned.

Charles Ezell, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, sent a memo to the heads and acting heads of departments and agencies Tuesday evening instructing them that by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22:

• Send an agency-wide notification to employees informing them of the closures and ask employees if they are aware of any efforts to use coded or imprecise language to obscure these plans
• Notices are being sent to all employees in the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) that they will be placed on paid administrative leave immediately and that the agency will take steps to close/end all DEIA programs, offices and projects.
• Close all external media for the DEIA office (website, social media accounts, etc.)
• Withdraw any final or pending documents, directives, orders, Command, Materials and Equity Plans
• Cancel any DEIA-related training and terminate any DEIA-related contractors

The memo also directs agency and department heads to inform OPM by noon on Thursday, January 23:

• Complete list of DEIA offices and all employees working in those offices as of November 5, 2024
• Complete list of all DEIA-related agency contracts as of November 5, 2024
• Any agency planning to fully comply with the above executive order and this memorandum

Agency heads must submit to OPM by 5 p.m. Friday:

• Written plan for layoffs for employees working in DEIA offices
• A list of all contract descriptions or personnel job descriptions that were changed as of November 5, 2024, to obscure their connection to the DEIA program

The memo comes after President Trump signed an executive order to eliminate all DEI programs in the federal government.

The president also signed an order stating that “it is the official policy of the United States Government to recognize only two genders: male and female.”
