Wisconsin voters decide to include voter ID law in state constitution


Wisconsin will include the state’s voter ID law in the state’s constitution after voters approve the proposal Tuesday.

The Associated Press voted at 9:48 p.m. ET.

Wisconsin has already required voters to have photo IDs to participate in the polls, but the measure now elevates the law to a constitutional amendment.

President Donald Trump Celebration of the law will be in the state constitution known as “Sociality of the Truth” on Tuesday night.

“Voter ID cards have just been approved in the Wisconsin election. Democrats fought it hard, presumably to cheat. It was a huge victory for Republicans, perhaps the biggest win of the night. It should have allowed us to win Wisconsin like I did in the presidential election, for years!” the president wrote.

According to the National Legislative Council meeting, nine states, including Wisconsin, include voters in Wisconsin, although Wisconsin’s requirements are the strictest. NCSL said there are laws in 36 states that voters require some kind of proof of identity.
